The Lancaster-Warwick-Stirling node

Our node is one of seven nodes funded under the National Centre for Research Methods initiative of the ESRC over two three-year periods -Phase 1 and Phase 2. We are a mix of statisticians, educationalists, psychologists, criminologists and sociologists who are interested in developing and promoting modern methods of statistical analysis to address topical and relevent social science problems. Our activities relate to developing and promoting quantitative methods in the social sciences, both in our research programme and in our training and capacity building programme.

Our research over both phases of the funding focuses on statistical methods for developmental processes and social change, and

New workshop on theorising and measuring developmental change

This one-day workshop at Goldsmith's college in London in September 2010 will  debate and discuss the main methodological approaches to microgenetic data generated in current research. It precedes the annual meeting of the British Psychological Society Developmental Psychology Section annual meeting and is being organized by the Lancaster-Warwick-Stirling node of the ESRC National Centre for Resarch Methods.

Report on evidence for DNA retention released

A  report has been released  written by Brian Francis which examines the new published scientific evidence of the DNA and fingerprint retention policy under the old Labour government. The new evidence was produced after substantial criticism of the earler research published in the DNA consultation document

Meeting on statistical modelling celebrating Murray Aitkin's 70th birthday

A one day meeting was held at the Royal Statistical Society on Thursday April 15th 2010, to celebrate the contributions made by Murray Aitkin to statistical modelling in the social sciences.
