The Lancaster-Warwick-Stirling node

Our node is one of seven nodes funded under the National Centre for Research Methods initiative of the ESRC over two three-year periods -Phase 1 and Phase 2. We are a mix of statisticians, educationalists, psychologists, criminologists and sociologists who are interested in developing and promoting modern methods of statistical analysis to address topical and relevent social science problems. Our activities relate to developing and promoting quantitative methods in the social sciences, both in our research programme and in our training and capacity building programme.

Our research over both phases of the funding focuses on statistical methods for developmental processes and social change, and

we are engaging with four substantive areas - criminology, sociology, education and psychology. Our remit is to disseminate methods widely to social science researchers in those disciplines as well as to statisticians, and we publish in substantive as well as methodological journals.

Our training and capacity building programme involves short courses, workshops, master classes and conferences. We are developing e-learning materials, and provide downloadable materials for many of the talks given at conferences and meetings.
